TSC Bans and Deregisters 23 Teachers, Issues Warning to Employers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recently taken action by deregistering 23 teachers due to multiple disciplinary cases.
TSC Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Macharia, issued a notice confirming the guilt of these teachers without specifying the charges they faced.
The notice included details such as TSC number, case number, teacher’s name, and the date of removal.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act,” stated part of the notice.
The dismissals adhered to Section 23 of the Teachers Service Commission Act, outlining guidelines for removing tutors from the Register.
According to the law, a teacher removed from the Register can only be reinstated by the Commission’s direction. Additionally, the teacher is barred from tutoring or assisting in teaching in any institution.
“A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such a person is registered as a teacher under this Act,” reiterated part of the statement.

Furthermore, the statement clarified that a teacher removed from the register ceases to be a teacher under the Act from the removal date.
The notice warned that employing a deregistered teacher is an offense punishable by a fine of not less than Ksh100,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both. In 2022, TSC had already deregistered over 100 teachers guilty of various offenses.
