The Teachers Service Commission has encouraged teachers to apply for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)prizes.
Since 1951, UNESCO’s 23 prizes have been awarded to projects that provide long-term solutions to global challenges such as gender equality, poverty alleviation, access to high quality and inclusive education, climate change monitoring, and cultural diversity for a culture of peace.
“TSC encourages teachers to apply for UNESCO prizes 2022 in any of the 16 areas,” said TSC on Friday.

The six UNESCO Education Prizes promote literacy, mother tongue development, the use of information and communication technologies, teacher effectiveness through improved pedagogy, and sustainable development educational activities that target socially or gender disadvantaged communities.
The prizes range in value from US$ 40.000 to US$ 300.000 and are given to two or three laureates each year or biennially.
NATURAL SCIENCES

UNESCO seeks to recognize and empower men and women scientists from civil society, institutes, or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to science in all fields, from basic research to applied science.

In the face of climate change and environmental hazards, the world requires more science and research to find long-term solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
SOCIAL AND HUMAN SCIENCES
The six social and human sciences prizes recognize meritorious activities that promote people’s freedom, independence, and dignity.
While encouraging ethical reflection on the transformations brought about by advances in science and technology, UNESCO supports peace activists who advocate for inclusion, tolerance, and cultural rapprochement through research, artistic creations, or social achievements.
CULTURE
The UNESCO Prize for Culture was established in 1995 to recognize outstanding efforts to protect the world’s cultural landscapes, a category of World Heritage.
It bears the name of Melina Mercouri, former Greek Minister of Culture who strongly advocated for integrated conservation that respects the environment, cultural traditions, and historical values.
COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION
Prizes for communication and information honor organizations and individuals who demonstrate creativity, courage, and tenacity in defending freedom of expression, media development, and free flow of information as inalienable human rights.
They also recognize those who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation and universal accessibility of documentary heritage as a common heritage of humanity.
