Treasury Bows Down To MPs’ CDF Pressure, Releases Ksh4 Billion CDF Standoff
The National Treasury released Ksh4 billion for the second tranche of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
According to Members of Parliament present at an induction meeting for House Committees on Wednesday, January 25, the funds have been disbursed into the NG-CDF account.
However, the MPs also said that Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u still owes them Ksh12 billion.
After the release of the funds, the MPs decided to resume the induction meeting that was taking place in Mombasa, after they had walked out of the meeting on two consecutive days.
According to insiders, the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula played a role in resolving the dispute between the MPs and Cabinet Secretary Ndungu.
The lawmakers had been protesting the delay and claimed that it caused problems for many parents whose children started school on January 23.
On Wednesday, January 25th, Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, announced that legislators have gathered tree hundred signatures to remove Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u from office.
He stated that Njuguna is endangering the lives of Kenyan children by withholding the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), despite approvals from relevant agencies.
Babu confirmed that they will proceed with the impeachment of Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury & Economic Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u.
Owino accused Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u of deceiving legislators when he pledged to release funds in December 2022.
He emphasized that this is not a political party issue but the interest of the public.
He called on Kenyans to hold protests against Njuguna and his Treasury officials, stating that they are all united against poverty regardless of their ethnicity.
He also warned President William Ruto’s administration against delaying the release of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), noting that it is a popular program among Kenyans.
On Monday, January 23, 2023, the Members of Parliament walked out of an induction seminar in Mombasa to protest the delayed release of funds.
They also asked for the closure of schools due to lack of fees for students who depend on NG-CDF funds.
The MPs stated that they will not engage in any parliamentary operations until the Treasury releases the money
