Transferred Bomet Teacher Commits Suicide At Staff Quarters
Learning and other activities were halted Tuesday evening at Bukacha Primary School in Bomet County, Kenya, after a male teacher committed suicide inside the room of a colleague. His colleague discovered a body of the deceased hanging from the roof.
The teacher was seen entering the room and never leaving, according to Bomet East Sub-county Police boss John Karani.
Given that he did not leave a note at the scene, Mr. Karani said a team of officers from his office and the education department are conducting investigations to determine what occurred.
Malel Langat, executive secretary of the Bomet KNUT branch, stated that the deceased was one of the teachers who successfully obtained a transfer to his home county from adjacent Narok County.
“It’s sad that we have lost him. He was one of the lucky teachers to benefit from the recent transfers. He had been operating from home to school since he come from around. We are appealing to the government to provide counseling to teachers who are undergoing myriads of challenges,” said Langat.
The cadaver has since been transferred to the mortuary of the Longisa County Referral Hospital.
