Three Students, Herder Killed In Kerio Valley Bandit Attack
Three children and a herder were killed by bandits in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet, on Sunday.
Six other people were injured in the incident in the Kapkoros neighborhood.
The Tot primary school students were playing in a nearby field when bandits sprayed the area with bullets.
The injured have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Patrick Lumumba, Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander, confirmed the incident, saying that police responded immediately and recovered stolen animals, but the bandits escaped.
He stated that tensions are high in the area and that reinforcements are being sent to beef up security in the area where families are fleeing their homes.
Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich called the ongoing killings in the area “genocide” and accused the government of failing to address the issue.
The children killed range in age from seven to twelve years old.
