On Thursday, three students from St. Paul’s Kevote High School in Embu, Kirinyaga County, were charged with arson for allegedly torching a Ksh.4 million dormitory at the school.
The trio is suspected of conspiring with others to commit the crime on October 3, 2023.
Two of the students who appeared before the principal magistrate of the Embu High Court, Robert Mundia, pleaded guilty to the charges, while the remaining student maintained his innocence.

The court released the students who denied the allegations on a Ksh. 100,000 bond, with the requirement of a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh. 50,000.
The prosecution asked for a postponement of the facts and did not raise objections to the bond conditions.
Mundia ordered the two to wait until the court appoints a pro bono attorney for the third defendant before discussing the facts.

She similarly ordered that the case be assigned to the court’s administration and set for 18 October 2023.
The three students are being detained at the Runyenjes Police Station.
