Thousands Of Form Ones Yet To Report To School Due To Financial CrisisDespite the government’s 100% transition strategy, education stakeholders are concerned about the large number of pupils who have yet to enroll in form one.Parents who talked to the media bemoaned the high expense of education in the country, claiming that school administrators were making unreasonable requests, such as raising school fees.On Saturday, May 14, while revealing Oriwa Boys High School’s KCSE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Magoha stated that the rising situation would be handled as the mop-up exercise will commence on Monday, May 16, ensuring that no kid is left behind.“We still have a sizeable number of students who are yet to report. I think we can say that time is not yet over as we are beginning the exercise on Monday,” Magoha stated. Due to a shortage of money, the CS first advised schools not to send any students home. Since Form One students returned to school about two weeks ago, this has not been followed.Professor Magoha had warned that defying the directive would result in terrible repercussions.“The school is not yours, it belongs to the government so stop punishing children by sending them home. Some of them come from extremely poor backgrounds,” he stated. The Ministry of Education has been pressing for a complete transition from 2019.“Under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 100% transition program, the government has maintained its push to ensure that every KCPE candidate enrolls in Form One and progresses to Form Four.I am happy to have led the efforts that resulted in the transfer of two KCPE cohorts to 100%. (2019 and 2020). Enrolment in secondary schools has increased from 1.3 million in 2008 to 3.5 million in 2022 as a result of this "On April 23, 2022, during the release of the KCSE results, Magoha noted.Changing schools, according to the CS, is another reason that contributes to the rising number of pupils who do not report to school. He stated that the practice should be avoided.Magoha observed that 38,797 out of 1,225,502 candidates were admitted to National Schools, while 214,960 were placed in Extra-County schools, when the Form One selection procedure was released at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on April 11, 2022.ALSO READ:He asked parents to just pay the cost set by the Ministry of Education during the conference."As a Ministry, we are committed to ensure that parents/guardians with learners who will be joining Form One are not overburdened with unnecessary requirements that increase the cost of education. Principals should exercise caution while listing student 11 requirements as part of the measures to reduce the cost of education,” the CS stated.Thousands Of Form Ones Yet To Report To School Due To Financial Crisis.
