Thousands Of Form Ones Yet To Report To School Due To Financial CrisisDespite the government’s 100% transition strategy, education stakeholders are concerned about the large number of pupils who have yet to enroll in form one.Parents who talked to the media bemoaned the high expense of education in the country, claiming that school administrators were making unreasonable requests, such as raising school fees.On Saturday, May 14, while revealing Oriwa Boys High School’s KCSE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Magoha stated that the rising situation would be handled as the mop-up exercise will commence on Monday, May 16, ensuring that no kid is left behind.“We still have a sizeable number of students who are yet to report. I think we can say that time is not yet over as we are beginning the exercise on Monday,” Magoha stated. Due to a shortage of money, the CS first advised schools not to send any students home. Since Form One students returned to school about two weeks ago, this has not been followed.Professor Magoha had warned that defying the directive would result in terrible repercussions.“The school is not yours, it belongs to the government so stop punishing children by sending them home. Some of them come from extremely poor backgrounds,” he stated.The Ministry of Education has been pressing for a complete transition from 2019.“Under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 100% transition program, the government has maintained its push to ensure that every KCPE candidate enrolls in Form One and progresses to Form Four.I am happy to have led the efforts that resulted in the transfer of two KCPE cohorts to 100%. (2019 and 2020).
