“Teachers…who do you think is being paid enough? Asks Magoha
Prof George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has taken a stand against teachers seeking higher pay from the government.
Magoha stated that no teacher can be fully compensated for the excellent work they do in the classroom, and thus no teacher should complain about their pay.
"Nobody can compensate our teachers. So let me not hear teachers saying that they are not being paid enough. Who the hell do you think is being paid enough?” he posed.
According to Magoha, he, like teachers, does not receive adequate compensation for his work at the Ministry of Education, and thus teachers should follow in his footsteps.
“Teachers…who do you think is being paid enough? No one pays me to work 16 hours a day,” Said Magoha.
Magoha made the remarks while releasing the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results at Mtihani House in Nairobi.
His statement comes amid a renewed push by the teachers’ union for TSC to review their members’ salaries.
