Teachers To be trained From April As Magoha Meets TSC.
The Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has today assured that teachers for grades 7 and 8 will be trained from April 2022.
Prof. Magoha and CAS Education Dr Sarah Ruto today had a consultative meeting with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chair, Jamleck Muturi, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia at Jogoo House.
Magoha spoke while touring Laburra mixed secondary school and commissioning new CBC junior classrooms.
Thetraing follows the implementation of junior high school levels of education, comprised of Grades 7 and 8, under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In March and April 2022, at least 60,000 secondary school teachers will be trained to teach junior secondary classes.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has already trained over 120,000 primary school teachers to handle grade six students next term.
The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will be extended to junior secondary schools in 2023. Grades 7, 8, and 9 will make up the junior secondary school.
Pioneer students in the new 2-6-3-3-3 CBC system will graduate to junior secondary school in 2023 after passing the Grade Six national examinations.
According to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), curriculum designs for Grades One through Ten are complete.
The construction of the classrooms for Grades 7, 8, and 9 is already underway. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i stated that Chiefs will oversee the construction of 11,600 new classrooms in schools across the country.

Teachers who will be in charge of the upcoming junior high school classes will receive a new 10-month training, according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
