Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to Export Teachers to Germany
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is actively engaged in discussions with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to facilitate the placement of teachers in foreign countries.
Calvin Anyuor, the Director of Legal Affairs at TSC, emphasized the surplus of teachers in Kenya and expressed the potential benefits of seeking employment opportunities abroad for them.

In elaborating on the initiative, Anyuor revealed, “We have initiated discussions with key stakeholders to export our teaching resources due to the surplus of teachers in the country. We are collaborating with the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant government agencies to enable our teachers to provide English language instruction in Germany.”
Furthermore, Anyuor highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in identifying potential markets in various countries for the country’s teachers. This development brings a sense of relief to the many teachers who are still awaiting employment through TSC.
A critical aspect of the Commission’s role in this endeavor is to ensure that teachers graduating from different training colleges possess the necessary educational quality.

Anyuor raised pertinent questions about the exported teachers’ competence, stating, “The question is, what is the quality of the teacher you are exporting to Germany? Once they land in Germany, are they capable of delivering education that withstands the rigors of the global academic environment?”
Addressing concerns about the desired quality of teachers, Anyuor pointed out the paradox in expectations, saying, “Stakeholders advocate for extremely low grades in teaching, yet demand high grades in fields like Medicine or Law without complaints. It’s contradictory to want low-quality teachers who are expected to produce engineers or pilots.”
Presently, TSC employs over 400,000 teachers, and the Commission aims to hire 46,000 teacher interns on a permanent and pensionable basis by the next year. These interns are nearing the completion of their two-year contract program.
