Teachers Down Tools in Baringo, Protest Over Bandit Attacks
Police in Baringo dispersed hundreds of demonstrators protesting the insecurity in the region following the killing of the Kagir primary school Headteacher on Saturday by lobbing teargas. Teachers from affected schools joined the protest today to express their discontent with the government’s inaction in combating insecurity.
Led by MCAs and teacher unions, residents and teachers gathered in Kabarnet town, bringing business to a halt, as police used teargas to disperse the crowd.

KUPPET leader Zacharia Nyomboi and KNUT leader Joshua Cheptarus led the teachers in expressing their dissatisfaction with the president’s lack of action despite numerous calls to initiate an operation to apprehend the bandits. They urged for immediate intervention.
Demonstrations were also held in Marigat, Baringo South, calling on the government to address the insecurity plaguing the region.

The insecurity in Baringo North has been on the rise since the beginning of the year, with nine people shot dead in January, including a three-year-old child. Residents are demanding swift action from the authorities.
