During his speech, a particular teacher drew the attention of the tough-talking Cabinet Secretary, who took time to praise the tutor for the critical role he played in KCPE exam marking.
The teacher, only identified as Yusuf, was credited with working until the wee hours of the morning to ensure that the KCPE results were released on time.
“I’ve just remembered I want to recognise one person, Yusuf stand up so that they can see you. Everybody forgets about this young boy over here called Yusuf.
"The fact that we were able to mark these exams quickly and on time, he is the last in the chain, so let’s not judge people from where they are. There are times he was sleeping at 4.30am and by 7.30am he’s here. I had identified all my leaders but I would not forget you,” Magoha noted.

Prof. George Magoha epressed pride in his own performance at both the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), saying he was leaving with his head held high.
Magoha described his statement as “the most solemn and significant” since joining the ministry three years ago, as he outlined some of his accomplishments during the release of the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results.
“As I prepare to hand over the basic education mantle to my successor, whom only God knows, I am proud of my record and I remain confident that the lady or gentleman who will come after me will find a comfortable place to continue from,” said the CS.
He stated that the KCPE exam is significant because it is the final one to be released under the Jubilee administration. He went on to say that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has had a six-year streak of the most clean and flawless national examinations, which has restored the certification system’s integrity and credibility.
Similarly, he stated that the KCPE exam results were the second-to-last before fully transitioning to Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“I am, therefore, proud and thankful to the Lord and President Uhuru to have been allowed me to serve the country for the past six years, three as Cabinet Secretary for Education and three as Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council.
“I cannot take for granted this opportunity to serve and I look forward to putting the icing on the cake over the next few months,” he said.
The CBC is one of the milestones mentioned by the CS, who claims that the government has done everything possible to ease the transition from the 8-4-4 system.
