Teacher Strongly Support 3% Housing Fund, Says Machogu. “They are indeed the beneficiaries”
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has expressed the unanimous support of teachers for the 3% housing fund.
He emphasized that the teachers recognized the benefits of the housing program, not only in Nairobi but throughout the entire country.
Machogu announced that teachers would be the primary beneficiaries of the government’s housing program.
With the laying of the Foundation stone for the Science Complex building at Nairobi School, Machogu emphasized the need for teachers to take advantage of the program, citing the inadequate housing conditions that many of them currently endure.
While the housing levy has faced opposition, Machogu believes it is a crucial stepping stone towards enabling teachers to own homes.
“They indicated to me that they are in support of your government of providing housing not only in Nairobi but in the entire country. They are indeed the beneficiaries of the programme because our teachers are in every part of this country.
He highlighted the positive impact of the housing fund, addressing the critical issue of inadequate housing for teachers across the country.
CS Machogu expressed concern over the substandard housing conditions that many teachers live in.
He acknowledged that the government’s contribution to the housing program would address this issue, providing teachers with the opportunity to upgrade their homes.
By participating in the program, teachers can benefit from affordable and well-constructed housing, significantly enhancing their quality of life.
President Ruto’s Commitment to School Development
President Ruto acknowledged the generosity of Nairobi School and pledged to assist in further developing the institution to meet the needs of its students.
With the condition that the school admits more students, Ruto promised to mobilize resources for constructing a laboratory, a dormitory, and additional classrooms.
He committed Ksh100 million towards the construction of 12 classrooms and sought the assistance of partners to build the required dormitories.
The president stressed the importance of accommodating 100 more students from different parts of the country to foster a united society.
Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga defended the mandatory contribution of 3 percent towards the housing program.
This compulsory contribution ensures that the government can attract investors who have the assurance of being paid once construction is completed.
By pooling resources through the housing levy, the government can embark on large-scale housing projects, enabling the delivery of affordable homes to teachers and other beneficiaries.
