After allegedly killing his five-year-old son, a primary school teacher committed suicide in a village in Homa Bay County.
Calvince Okello, a primary school teacher in Migori County, is said to have committed suicide on Tuesday in a church in Nyangu Village, Kothidha location in Homa Bay Sub-county.
According to reports, he did so after allegedly killing his five-year-old son, Charles Norbert. There are no clear reasons why the 35-year-old teacher committed the ordeal. However, the incidents are thought to be the result of domestic problems.
According to John Omamo, the Chief of the Kothidha location, the incident began on Monday when Okello left home with his son.
His plan was to accompany him on a walk through the village and then return home a few minutes later. However, when they did not return home that evening, the family became concerned.
His wives began calling him as a result of this. Instead of disclosing his plans, the teacher promised to return home.
“When he was being called, he told his family to give him a few minutes so that he would be back home but he did not,” Omamo said
When Okello did not return home as promised that night, family members became concerned.
The family’s phone calls did not go through on Tuesday morning. This sparked concern, prompting family members to start looking for them in the village.
His body was discovered dangling from the roof of a village church. He had committed suicide by tying a rope around his neck.
Residents discovered his son’s body on a nearby sugarcane plantation a few minutes later. The son had neck injuries, raising the possibility that he had been strangled.
