Taita Taveta Absorbs ECDE, vocational Teachers Into Permanent Jobs

The Taita Taveta government has officially absorbed 368 teachers from Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centres (VTC) into a permanent and pensionable scheme.

Governor Andrew Mwadime distributed employment letters to the elated educators on Wednesday, emphasizing that the initiative aims to enhance the overall quality of education within the county.

Among those now employed permanently are 308 ECDE and 60 VTC teachers out of the total 673 ECDE teachers in Taita Taveta. Governor Mwadime highlighted the significance of this transition, stating, “All teachers who were on contract terms have now been elevated to the permanent scheme, contributing to the improvement of ECDE in the county.”

Mwadime believes that this scheme will not only facilitate the personal growth of the teachers but also serve as motivation for them to deliver the best services to over 12,000 ECDE learners.

Encouraging passion and care in their work, he remarked, “We expect high levels of professionalism from the teachers. Ensure you nurture the children’s talents because talent pays,” emphasizing the pivotal role teachers play as societal role models.

Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo reiterated the county’s commitment to raising education standards, asserting that education is the key to a brighter future. She emphasized the crucial role of ECDE teachers in laying a strong foundation for children, urging them to remain dedicated to their duties.

Kilalo also underscored the county government’s dedication to supporting ECDE centers through infrastructure improvement and the distribution of learning materials. These efforts, she believes, are essential for the success of the education system.

Gloria Monikombo, the Education executive, encouraged teachers to seize the opportunity to enhance their academic qualifications within the new scheme, which also allows for promotion. She added that teachers would have access to loans for personal development.

In a parallel initiative, Governor Mwadime has granted scholarships to 100 financially needy yet academically bright Form 1 students who are enrolling in schools nationwide.

This move is part of the county scholarship program, which has thus far benefited 671 students. Mwadime advised the scholarship recipients to uphold high standards of discipline and work diligently to excel in their studies.
