Supervisors and Invigilators Prohibited from Carrying Phones into KCSE Examination Rooms

In a bid to uphold the integrity of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, has issued a stern directive to all supervisors and invigilators. They are now strictly prohibited from carrying mobile phones into examination rooms during the ongoing KCSE examinations.

Dr. Kipsang’s directive comes in response to growing concerns that some examination officials have been compromising the examination process by taking screenshots of exam scripts and sharing them on social media platforms. This alarming trend has raised significant concerns about the security and confidentiality of the examination materials.

In an official statement, Dr. Belio Kipsang emphasized the need for airtight security measures to safeguard the KCSE examinations and prevent any form of malpractice. He stated that the Ministry of Education was committed to ensuring the examinations proceeded smoothly and without any breaches of integrity.

The Kenya National Examination Council has prohibited unaccredited individuals from entering KCSE examination centers throughout the nation.

Livingston Mburu, a member of the council representing Machakos Town sub-county, explained to reporters that the directive was issued to guarantee the examinations’ security, credibility, and smooth administration.

Examinations commenced on Monday. KNEC says that 903,260 candidates are participating in the examinations across the nation.

An arrest and charging of six individuals have been made in connection with suspected malpractices during the ongoing national examinations of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

A multi-agency operation spearheaded by Communication’s Authority of Kenya officers and DCI personnel affiliated with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) resulted in the apprehension of the six suspects.

The establishment of the operation was prompted by a letter from the Communications Authority of Kenya to KNEC, which identified more than 32 social media platforms that were being exploited to distribute, trade, and publish examination materials in contravention of the KNEC Act and regulations (DCI).

The DCI has identified Martin Mogusu, also known as Prof. Martinez, as one of the suspects responsible for managing The Teacher’s Updates, a highly sought-after telegram group that boasted a subscriber count exceeding 18,000.
