It is unusual for the same students to come out on top in both national exams. Naeem Samnakay achieved what was once thought to be an impossible feat when he topped the 1985 KCPE and 1989 KCSE exams.
The Alliance High School alumnus accomplished the seemingly impossible feat. Gibert Nyasoko Tengetta, not to be outdone, was the top student in the 1988 KCPE exams, scoring 556 out of 700.
Four years later, he was named the top student in the 1992 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
Daphne Otieno, a female student, took first place in the 2013 KCPE exams with 444 points. At the time, she was tied for first place in Kenya with Brian Kimutai.

Tonny Bumula’s achievement was recognized in 2019 when Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced that he was the best student in the country.
