Students Above 15 Years Can Now Receive Covid-19 Vaccine – Education Ministry.
The Education Ministry has announced that school-aged children aged 15 and up can now receive a Covid-19 shot.
The vaccination, however, will not take place on the school grounds.
According to the Saturday Standard, because this is an examination term, the ban on school activities remains in effect.
Parents with children in the specified age range will take their children to various vaccination centers.
Early Childhood Education and Basic Education PS Julius Jwan directed Regional Directors of Education, County Directors of Education, and Sub-County Directors to oversee the campaign in a circular dated February 3, 2021.
The directive was issued on the same day that the government began a two-week mass vaccination campaign aimed at 14 million Kenyans.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i stated during the launch on Thursday that at least one million Kenyans will be vaccinated daily.
Matiang’i directed all administrators, from County Commissioners to assistant chiefs, to take the campaign seriously in order to meet the daily target.
Matiang’i stated that the government intends to meet the World Health Organization’s target of 70% vaccinated population by June.
