Student Dies During Party
On Saturday, March 19, at around 4 a.m., a 20-year-old student died at a house party in Racecourse Estate after slipping and falling off a balcony on the fifth floor.
The Daystar University student was one of eight people who went to the party. When he left to stand on the balcony, his friends assumed he was taking a phone call.
They rushed out after hearing a scream followed by a loud thud, only to find the deceased lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor.
Nairobi Police Commissioner James Mugera stated that the officers briefly interrogated those present before transporting the body to the mortuary.
“We suspect he was intoxicated at the time he fell but we are also investigating to establish if there were other issues that led to this tragic incident,” he said.
Karanja’s family held a requiem mass at Lavington United Church on Monday, March 22. He was remembered as a young and promising man who died far too young.
“The son of our cousin has passed away after a fatal accident. Please uphold them in prayer, that the God of all comfort will grant them peace.” wrote one of his family members on Twitter.
A second-year Kirinyaga University student died on the spot after falling from the third floor of an apartment in Juja in a similar incident in January 2022.
The 20-year-old student was returning from a drinking spree to his lover’s apartment when he got into a fight with another man over a lady.
