State Assures Security To KCPE Candidates And Exam Administrators
KCPE candidates and supervisors in this year’s national examinations have been assured of their safety as the examination begins today.
Muthama Wambua, Turkana County Commissioner, stated that enough security personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the candidates during the opening of the KCPE examination container at the county commissioner headquarters in Lodwar.
“Two police officers have been deployed to each examination centre and we have extra security officers from Rapid Deployment Unit, border patrol unit who are on standby in areas like Kainuk, Kapedo, Kakong, Nadapal and Lokori to support the officers in charge of examination centre should need arise,” said Wambua.
This morning, 8,923 candidates, including 5,097 boys and 3,844 girls, are taking the KCPE in 266 examination centres. At the same time, Wambua cautioned politicians against campaigning near schools during the exam period.
He also stated that the government has distributed relief food to drought-stricken areas and assured candidates that the government is eager to see them take their exams in a conducive environment.
Loima Jeremiah Lomurukai, a member of Parliament, also expressed support for the candidates, saying that the political class will work with security agencies to ensure that candidates take exams in a peaceful environment.
Lomurukai has asked the government to provide security in high-risk areas such as Todonyang, Kapedo, Kainuk, and Letea. He also urged all stakeholders to be on the lookout for exam cheating.
Abdirisack Jaldesa, the County Commissioner of Baringo, has assured candidates in volatile areas of the county that they will be able to sit for national examinations without fracas.
Jaldesa stated that his office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has put in place elaborate measures to ensure a good environment for candidates taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary and Primary Education KCSE and (KCPE) examinations.
The County Commissioner told KNA in his office in Kabarnet town that the affected examination centers had been mapped and candidates had been relocated to neighboring schools where they would have adequate security, food, and boarding facilities throughout the period.
“We have reinforced security in our schools, including Chebilat, Chemuyek, Katuwit primary schools in Tiaty East and in Baringo North Sub-County. We have moved candidates from Kapturo and Chepkesin primary schools to Toporoi Primary School which shall accommodate the extra candidates,” he said.
The County Commissioner also stated that candidates from three schools in Marigat Sub-County, namely Kapkechir, which has 34 candidates, Kasiela Primary, which has 14 candidates, and Kapindasum, which has 30 candidates, will take their exams at Chemrongion Primary.
He stated that, while this is a temporary measure, he expects warring communities to embrace peaceful coexistence for the benefit of all residents in the region.
