St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School Shut Down Due to Unknown Disease Outbreak
St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega County has been closed due to the outbreak of an unidentified disease.
The administration announced the decision after holding a meeting with county government officials.
According to the statement, Form one, two, and three students will take a one-week break while disease investigations proceed.

Form four students will proceed with their studies in preparation for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, set to begin in late October.
According to the County Government of Kakamega, representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the school’s Board of Management (BOM), parents, and the school’s sponsor reached an agreement during a meeting.
The decision was to temporarily release Form 1, 2, and 3 students, with plans for their return next week after a thorough assessment of the situation and the implementation of necessary measures to prevent any future occurrences.

In contrast, the administration of Kakamega County stated that its health officials are collaborating with the Ministry of Health to determine the cause of the enigmatic disease.
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Nairobi and Kisumu counties has received blood samples from the 95 afflicted students for further analysis.
The school administration first became aware of a disease outbreak when 95 students began to have difficulty walking.
The statement emphasized the commitment of the county government to prioritize the safety and well-being of all students within learning institutions.
Furthermore, it pledged to make dedicated efforts to establish a conducive learning environment where students can excel academically without experiencing disruptions or harm.
Meanwhile, health officials are monitoring the progress of 95 students hospitalized in Kakamega County hospitals.
