St Anthony Kitale Ready To Defend National Hockey Title
Kevin Lugalia, head coach of the St Antony Kitale hockey team, says they are ready to defend the national title they won in Mombasa in 2019 by defeating archrivals Friends School Kamusinga.
When the County games begin this weekend, the national champions will begin the defense of their overall title, and Lugalia says they will take one game at a time.
“We have worked hard and will be taking one game at a time. We won’t underestimate any opponent because we are the champions and every team will look to beat us,” Lugalia said.
“Having taken such a long break, many teams may be unfamiliar to us because a lot has changed during the time hence the importance of focusing only on ourselves,” Lugalia added.

Lugalia believes Kamusinga is still their biggest threat despite losing 1-0 to them in the East Africa finals in Arusha, Tanzania, the same year they beat them at national level.
“They are a good team, but they are not our only competitors because each stage of the competition presents its own set of challenges. We are prepared to approach each stage in a unique way.”
“It is our goal to win the seventh title, but we must first win at the county, regional, and national levels before focusing on East Africa.”
