St Anthony Kitale Beat Dagoretti Boys School to win its 6th National Football Championship
St. Anthony Boys, Kitale, won its sixth national football championship after defeating Dagoretti High 2-0 in Saturday’s championship game in Kakamega County. Aldrine Kibet scored an outstanding brace in the victory.
Massive audiences rarely seen at Kenyan football matches have been the norm at the ongoing National School Games, with this contest attracting by far the most spectators.
The Bukhungu Stadium was full to capacity, and spectators encroached on portions of the playing field to watch Kibet’s brilliant performance that day.
The player who propelled St. Anthony into the championship game with the game-winning goal against Shanderema rose to the occasion once more to lead the Solidarity Boys to victory.
Kibet and Javan Omondi were instrumental in the opposition’s blistering start, which drove Dagoretti back into their own half immediately.
After twice coming close, the Solidarity Boys took the lead when Kibet arrived late in the box to cap off a left-wing sweep and slot the ball home.
They appeared to play at a slightly higher level than Dagoretti, who never truly seized control of the game, allowing their opponents to dominate for lengthy stretches.
St. Anthony continued to press after halftime, compelling Dagoretti to defend deep within their own third.
St. Anthony’s second goal appeared inevitable for the majority of the second half, and it eventually arrived in spectacular fashion.
Kibet took a touch to gain control after collecting the ball on the left side of midfield, then positioned himself outside the penalty area before unleashing a piledriver for a spectacular finish.
At that point, with only three minutes remaining on the clock, the game was over for Dagoretti as Kibet sparked celebrations among the Solidarity Boys.
Earlier, Kelly Madada was on fire, scoring a magnificent header and assisting on another to help Shanderema defeat Agoro Sare and cruise to the East African Championships.
Shanderema starred in front of their home supporters, delivering one of the best performances of their careers in order to earn the coveted position in their debut appearance.
The hosts, who competed in the national championships without captain Mark Shaban, will be expecting to reunite with their star player in Rwanda.
Three teams will represent Kenya at the regional championships later this month in Huye, Rwanda.
