St. Anthony Ends Shanderema’s Historic Season, to Face Dagoretti In Final
Following Friday’s semifinals, St Anthony will face Dagoretti High School in the boys’ football final at the ongoing National Secondary School Games in Kakamega County.
St. Anthony ended Shanderema’s historic season with a 1-0 victory in the first semifinal due to Aldrine Kibet’s goal.
Dagoretti needed penalties to eliminate Agoro Sare, prevailing 3-0 in the shootout after regulation and overtime failed to distinguish the teams.
The final that will be played at the Bukhungu Stadium will be a rematch of Dagoretti’s 1-0 victory over St. Anthony on Thursday.
The third-place match between Agoro Sare and Shanderema will serve as a curtain raiser for the competition’s championship match.
Savan Omondi’s brilliance enabled his colleague to score the game-winning goal for Kibet against Shanderema. Omondi slipped past the home defense with his quick feet to set up his teammate.
Shanderema began the game on a high note, threatening the visiting team, and came close to scoring early.
However, St. Anthony adjusted to the game splendidly, completing their passes and combining well to score the game’s first goal despite facing a hostile crowd.
Shanderema were held scoreless for the majority of the match as the Solidarity Boys’ defense performed flawlessly.
At Kakamega High School, Agoro Sare missed all three of their penalty shots, allowing Dagoretti to advance in the shootout.
Prior to Agoro Sare’s equalizer in the second half that forced extra time, Dagoretti had scored the game‘s first goal.
Neither team scored during the 30 minutes of intense extra time, so a penalty shootout was required to determine the victor.
