Speeding Vehicle Rams Into Group of Form One Students, Killing One

Form One student dies after being hit by speeding car A motorist has been arrested by the police in Vihiga County following an accident resulting in the death of a Form One student at Igunga Girls High School.

The driver, identified as a medical doctor, collided with a group of students while they were crossing the road from their classes to their dormitories.

According to Sabatia Sub County OCPD Patrick Gogo, the driver is believed to have been speeding at the time of the incident.

The victim, a Form One student, was pronounced dead at the scene, while those injured were promptly taken to Vihiga Referal Hospital for medical attention.

Subsequently, the vehicle involved was impounded and taken to Vihiga Police Station for inspection. The suspect is set to face charges in court for various traffic offenses, including causing death and injury.

Area Member of Parliament, Clement Sloya, attributed blame to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) for allegedly neglecting the rehabilitation of roads within the constituency.

He reported that the Stand Kisa – Kilingili Road in Sabatia constituency has been a constant source of concern, resulting in tragic accidents.

Sloya emphasized that KeNHA had promised to expedite the road’s rehabilitation, including the installation of safety features like rumble bumps, warning signs, and road markings to enhance pedestrian and road user safety. However, according to him, this commitment has not translated into tangible action on the ground.
