Shock as Missing KCSE Supervisor is Found in Coffin Inside His House
On Thursday, January 12, three weeks after he was reported missing, the body of a missing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams supervisor was discovered inside a handmade coffin.
The body of a 45-year-old Computer Studies teacher at a school in Nyeri was discovered in a coffin built of concrete blocks and wrapped in cardboard.
There were flowers, a black flag, scrolls written in a foreign language, and a cow horn near the boat-shaped coffin.
The missing person complaint was submitted on December 22, 2022, after his sisters expressed worry, according to locals.
The regional administrator verified his abduction shortly after overseeing KCSE examinations.
“First the mother came and his two sisters said they had not seen him and his mobile phone was switched off and we reported to a local police station,” one of the neighbours added.
One of the neighbors stated, “His mother and two sisters said they had not seen him, and his mobile phone was turned off, so we contacted the local police station.”
His body was discovered when his neighbor notified the authorities about a foul odor emanating from his rental home. The police breached the door and discovered the teacher’s body inside.
“But what we found after breaking into the house, really shocked us. We found a coffin and also some strange chemical beneath the coffin,” the deceased’s neighbour told the press.
According to his close acquaintances, he was a reclusive individual who respected his privacy. After work, he barely engaged a few locals in political discussion.
The teacher would occasionally switch off his phone and disappear, sometimes for a whole weekend, before returning to work.
“It was normal for him to switch off his phone and disappear for some time. He did not complain or appear to be distressed during his final days,” one of his friends stated.
Following the finding of his body, local law enforcement began assembling evidence to determine the teacher’s cause of death and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
