Sh100million Eliud Kipchoge Library Commissioned At Kapsisiywa Secondary.
Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha has dedicated the iconic Eliud Kipchoge Library at Kapsisiywa Secondary in Chesumei Sub County, Nandi County.
Magoha, who was accompanied by marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, dedicated the facility on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday.
President Kenyatta gave the library to Kipchoge as a thank you for breaking the INEOS Challenge in Vienna, Austria on October 12, 2019.
Kipchoge received Sh100 million as a gift from the President, but he used the funds to establish a library at his former school, Kapsisiywa.
“Eliud Kichoge Library whose construction works began one and half years ago is complete at a cost of Sh85million including a school gate, walkway and perimeter wall,” Magoha said.
The remaining Sh15 million will be used to build 10 classrooms, an administration building, and an extension of the perimeter wall.
“The facility has books worth one million and 30 computers. Internet will be installed by the end of the week,” said the CS.
Nandi County Commissioner Herman Shambi stated that his administration will provide security to the facility because it is a critical infrastructure in the area.
Kipchoge, for his part, thanked all stakeholders for making his wish a reality and stated that the facility will benefit the community to the greatest extent possible.
He went on to say that he chose to build a library in order to educate the community, inspire students to work harder, and change their mindset.
“I thank the Office of the County Commissioner, the President’s delivery unit, Board of Management, teachers and the community at large for ensuring that the facility is set up,” said Kipchoge.

“Education is key for development and it also spurs growth and development in different spheres of life. The library will be a useful research tool to the users,” stated Kipchoge.
Kipchoge later went to several schools in the county to commission CBC classrooms on behalf of the Education CS, who had gone on to other assignments, including at Kapsabet Boys and Girls schools.
Residents of Kapsisiywa praised Kipchoge for using his gift to help others.
Meshack Kipchirchir, a resident, believes the library will boost literacy levels in the community and throughout the county.
