Segero Secondary: Little-Known SDA School In Trans Nzoia Sends All Candidates To University
The overlooked Segero Chesowos Adventist School in Trans Nzoia County has become the talk of the town after defying the stereotype associated with it and sending all of its students to college.
The day school in Trans Nzoia County’s Kisawai Village received a mean score of 8.6, with a C+ as the lowest grade in the newly-released results.
The school principal attributes the performance to teamwork, stating that teachers and parents from the obscure community worked together to produce the highest mean score to date.
At Kisawai village in the Saboti constituency, parents, teachers, students, and residents sang jubilant songs to celebrate their success.
“Our mean score is 8.62 with 9 students scoring B+. We have 27 Bs, 18 B-, we have eight C+s, and that is our last grade,” Eric Ondenge, the school principal, said.
Gloria Cherotich, the top student, stated, “We thank our teachers for the support and the main reason for us passing this examination is because our teachers were attending the evening class as well as the morning class.”
Granton Wekesa, who also sat his KCSE exams at Segero Chesowos, made his family proud by achieving university admissions marks and enjoying a type of rebirth. After receiving 244 marks on the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), he claims that he lost his passion.
Despite the hardships in the area, all 62 students who sat for their KCSE exams at Segero Chesowos Adventist School will continue on to higher education, according to the school’s principal. This success was largely attributable to the school’s efforts to foster positive relationships with parents and other stakeholders, he said.
The community of the Segero Chesowos Adventist school is aiming for a higher mean score on this year’s national exams and hopes to rise from that vantage point.
