
School Games: Jamhuri, Dagoretti High Stunned in Football Semi-finals as Waylight Advances To Nationals
Waylight won the boys’ football championship at Lenana School in Nairobi, beating Highway Secondary 1-0.
Due to an upset in the semi-finals, underdogs Waylight and Highway were left to compete for first place after regional powerhouses Dagoretti High and Jamhuri were eliminated.
Waylight ultimately prevailed thanks to a second-half goal from Robert Muteti, who was later named the tournament’s most valuable player, after being set up by Aney Deng.
Waylight’s goalkeeper Micheal Wamalwa made a number of spectacular saves in the closing minutes of the game to stave off Highway’s late charge.
Evans Murono, the team’s head coach, expressed his elation to Citizen Digital following the triumph, saying that he believes their thorough preparations were a major factor in their success.
“We want to play at the top level at the nationals to stand a chance of winning,” said Murono.
With a hat trick, player of the tournament Fasilah Adhiambo led Dagoretti mixed to a 5-0 victory over Beth Mugo secondary in the girls’ division.
Adhiambo also finished as the league’s top scorer with Kangemi women in the Kenya Women Premier League.
The regional winners cruised to an easy victory thanks to outstanding performances from Patience Mwero and Hildah Mwololo. Following the victory, head coach Joseph Orao heaped praise on his team.
“We are going to the nationals with our heads high and we yearn to bring the trophy to Nairobi,” said Orao.
At the same site Ofafa Jericho startled giants Upper hill 7-5 in a rarely contested rugby finale. Salim Owino failed to convert Brinnen Jumeirah’s try after Alvin Musembi converted James Ndura’s try for Ofafa Jericho.

There was no scene for girls in this year’s rugby finale chapter. Two teams, Ofafa Jericho and Upper Hill, qualified for the nationals, which will be held in Nakuru from September 8th to the 13th.
