Ruto Announces Sh24 Billion Investment for Junior Secondary School (JSS) Infrastructure Upgrade
Furthermore, Ruto stated that the government will invest Sh24 billion to upgrade junior secondary school (JSS) infrastructure.
The president stated during the 60th anniversary of Jamhuri Day at Uhuru Garden in Nairobi that the funds will be used to build classrooms and infrastructure for JSSs.
The pledge comes amid criticism of the JSS rollout.
Skeptics have highlighted the need for immediate attention to address two critical issues: a lack of suitable infrastructure and inadequate manpower.
Akelo Misori, Secretary-General of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers, stated it was incorrect to house the JSS in primary schools.

He asserted that there has been no proper learning in JSS for the past year.
Ruto also stated that school money has been increased.
President Ruto stated that the increased allocation of funds to the education sector, totaling an additional Sh127 billion, reflects the government’s recognition of the crucial role that investment in learning, training, and education plays in developing the necessary human capital for the economy.
The Ministry of Education announced last week that the government had earmarked Sh3.9 billion for the construction of an additional 15,021 classrooms for JSS by 2025 to accommodate first-year students.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced that the World Bank will provide an additional Sh9 billion for the construction of 9,000 classrooms.

In January 2024, the first class of the Competency-Based Curriculum will enter Grade 8.
Dr. Ruto announced his intentions to build an additional 3,500 classrooms in Nairobi County, addressing the city’s chronic shortage of classrooms.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with all Members of Parliament to ensure that every kid in Nairobi receives a high-quality education.
The president emphasized that making substantial investments in education will play a critical role in developing the human resources necessary to drive economic prosperity.
