Ruiru Teachers Warned Against Charging KCPE Candidates for Lunch During exams

Teachers in Ruiru, Kiambu County have received a warning not to request payment from candidates for lunch during the national examinations.

Simon King’ara, the Member of Parliament for the area, emphasized that a feeding program sponsored by the Ng’ang’a King’ara Foundation has already covered the cost of lunch for the three exam days.

While presenting a check worth Sh2.5 million to support 8,154 candidates in the constituency’s 19 public primary schools, the MP revealed that he had received information indicating that some teachers were demanding parents to pay for the meals.

The legislator also affirmed that they have implemented measures to guarantee the seamless delivery of examination papers to all centers, particularly in flood-prone areas of the constituency.

Prior to this, some parents claimed that they had been required to pay Sh350 per student for the three days of the exam, but they felt relieved after the MP’s intervention.

The headteacher of Ruiru Primary School, Stephen Saruni, expressed gratitude for the feeding program, stating that it has encouraged many students to remain in class who might otherwise have been absent. He also appreciated Mr. King’ara’s initiative.
