A report has linked the Covid 19 pandemic to a decrease in student enrollment.
The report is the country’s first independent assessment of learning since the outbreak of Covid-19.
The pandemic forced the country to close schools for nine months, disrupting the normal school calendar.
According to the report, Covid-19 imposed school closure, which resulted in a 3.2% drop in enrolment when schools reopened in January 2021.
Girls with disabilities experienced the greatest drop in enrollment (16.2%), followed by boys (13.1%).
Private schools saw a 7.6 percent drop in enrollment, while public schools saw a 2.9 percent drop.

Enrollment in rural schools fell by 3.3 percent, while it fell by 3.2 percent in urban schools.

The information is contained in UsawaAgenda’s latest Uwezo Learning Assessment report for 2021, which was released on Friday. ‘Are Our Children Learning?’ is the title of the report.
The report also indicates a 50 percent improvement in levels of adult literacy by 2015, especially for women and equitable to basic and continuing education for all adults.
