Replacing Lost Academic Certificates: A Guide by KNEC
Losing important documents like academic certificates can happen unexpectedly, whether due to natural disasters or accidental misplacement.
This leaves individuals wondering how to proceed in such situations. Fortunately, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) acknowledges these challenges and offers a solution for Kenyans who need to replace lost academic certificates.
Acknowledgement and Procedure
KNEC recognizes the occurrence of document loss and provides avenues for replacement. If you find yourself without your original academic certificates, you can apply for a letter of certification. This process requires specific documentation to proceed effectively.
Application Process
To initiate the replacement process, applicants need to visit the KNEC website and register an account at https://qmis.knec.ac.ke.
After registration, log in with the provided credentials sent to your email address. Navigate to the ‘lost certificate’ section in the menu and input details such as your index number, exam type, and the year of examination.
Required Documentation
According to KNEC, applicants must attach several documents along with their application. These include:
- A copy of the lost certificate or result slip
- Both sides of your Identity Card
- A passport-size photo
- A police abstract
- Confirmation from the registrar of persons available at NSSF building
Submission and Verification
Once all required documents are attached, submit your application and await verification. You will receive an SMS notification prompting you to log in again. At this stage, you will need to make a payment of Sh 5,220 for processing.
Completion and Collection
KNEC advises applicants to monitor the application status through the online system. Once processed, you will receive another SMS notification to collect your certification letter from the KNEC offices.
