Benson Gathungu, popularly known as Muthee Kiengei on Kameme FM, has rescued a stranded Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) student who had failed to enroll in Form One due to a lack of school fees.

The desperate student walked for miles with his mother to Kangaru School in Embu with the sole intention of persuading the school’s administration to accept him.

The student and his mother had brought a live chicken, hoping that the school administration would accept it as part of the school fees in exchange for a promise to pay the balance later.

The school, however, refused to admit the student, causing the mother to cry.

After hearing the touching story, Kiengei appealed to his followers to assist him in obtaining a scholarship for the deserving student, who received 313 points out of a possible 500.

“The school refused and the mother broke down in tears. Anybody with his information please inbox me and anyone willing to join please send your support. The headteacher at Kangaru High School, please contact me. The boy must report tomorrow,” Kiengei appealed.

His post went viral, and well-wishers offered to assist the student.

Former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, according to the Kameme FM host, has offered to pay his full-year school fees.

“Sicily Kariuki is an alumni of Kangaru School in Embu and she has sent me with another full year school fees for our champ,” Kiengei stated.

Njeru Ndwiga, an Embu Senator, also offered to pay his one-year school fees.

“Another whole year cleared by Senator Njeru Ndwiga. Right now the headteacher and the staff of Kangaru High School are in their homestead to pick him up.”
