A shocking incident unfolded at Ndurarua Primary School in Kawangware, Dagoretti North, causing chaos and panic among students, teachers, and residents.

As the morning sun illuminated Ndurarua Primary School, a commotion erupted when police officers resorted to firing live rounds and launching tear gas canisters at the protesting vendors.

Shockingly, one of the tear gas canisters exploded within the school compound, instilling fear and panic among the pupils and teachers.

The resulting chaos left approximately 20 students unconscious, prompting urgent medical attention and their subsequent transfer to nearby hospitals.

Amidst the chaos, one of the protesters was shot and sustained injuries.

The demonstrators vehemently asserted that they had not received any eviction notices prior to the violent clashes.

Sospeter Muchiri, a resident, expressed his dismay, stating, “They had not served us with any notices; police just started attacking people and one of us was shot and injured as a result.”

The lack of warning and the use of excessive force by the police have raised concerns among the affected community.

In addition to the destruction of the vendors’ kiosks and the injuries sustained, the residents of Kawangware have accused the police of indiscriminately targeting the local population.

The demonstrators questioned the legality of such demolitions and the harassment faced by hardworking citizens who strive to make ends meet.

Sospeter Muchiri posed a critical question, “We want to know what law allows for the demolition of property and harassing common mwananchi who work hard every day to make ends meet?”
