In a handover ceremony attended by University Management, Kibabii University announced the appointment of Prof Henry Kirimi Kiriamiti as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs.

Kiriamiti succeeded Prof Franklin Wabwoba, Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics, who had been acting since early July.

Following the appointment of then-Vice Chancellor Prof Solomon Shibaro as Vice Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in March 2020, the office became vacant.

Kiriamiti is a Process and Environmental Engineering certified professor in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering.

Kiriamiti previously served as a full professor at Moi University in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, as well as representing the school of engineering in the Moi University senate since February 2018.

From June 2015 to February 2018, Kiriamiti was also the Vice Chancellor of Kenya Methodist University, which has approximately 8500 students and 420 teaching and administrative staff.

Prof Kiriamiti was the deputy principal at Garissa University College from May 2013 to June 2015, serving at least 8500 students and 95 teaching staff.

Between 2011 and 2013, he was also the Deputy Director of Mine in the Department of Mining Metallurgy Engineering Polytechnic of Nairobi.

Kiriamiti was the dean of Moi University’s engineering school from 2007 to 2011, serving approximately 2100 students after being promoted from the head of the department of chemical and process engineering.

Kibabii University overwhelmingly welcomes Professor Kiriamiti, a man who has both the experience and charisma to deliver for our institution following his tremendous groundbreaking records and achievements,” Kibabii University Vice Chancellor Prof Odeo said during the handover ceremony.

Kibabii University was established on November 14, 2016, by President Uhuru Kenyatta from the former Kibabii University College, a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

Kibabii University is the only chartered university in Bungoma county, serving approximately 6000 students per year.

The university is divided into two faculties: arts and social sciences and science. It also has five schools: the computing and informatics school, the business and economics school, the nursing school, the education school, and the graduate studies school.

Kibabii University offers 18 undergraduate programs, 17 master’s programs, and nine PhD programs.
