Prof Magoha’s final Journey: Funeral procession and schedule
The funeral committee for the late former Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, will organize a procession in Nairobi on Wednesday, as a way to allow Kenyans to pay their final respects before the burial on Saturday.
The farewell caravan is scheduled to commence at 8:30 am from the Lee Funeral Home, and it will proceed to the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Nairobi Kenyatta National Hospital Campus.
The procession is expected to enter the KNH complex through the KNH gate on Hospital Road and exit through the KMTC gate on Ngong Road.
The funeral committee leader, former Basic Education Principal Secretary, Julius Jwan, stated that the staff and students of FHS, KNH and KMTC are welcome to pay their last respects.
Jwan encouraged attendees to wear white coats and lay flowers near the catafalque.
At 11:30 am, the coffin carrying Magoha’s remains will be taken in a procession to the University of Nairobi Main Campus, Chancellor’s Court (near CCU), through the St. Paul’s Chapel Gate.
Jwan urged academic staff to dress in academic gowns as they pay their last respects, while STEM students should put on their lab coats and follow the procession from the Chapel gate. The caravan will exit through the Museum roundabout.
Magoha’s requiem mass will take place on Thursday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, while the funeral mass will be held on Saturday at Odera Akang’o University College Campus in Yala.
Jwan requested academic staff to escort the body in a procession from Magoha’s home in Umiru Nyamnina, Yala, at 8 am, and to keep time.
In conclusion, the procession is an opportunity for Kenyans to pay their final respects to the late former Education Cabinet Secretary, and to say goodbye to a great leader who served the country with distinction.
The committee is hopeful that many people will turn up to participate in the procession and to offer their condolences to the family and friends of the late Magoha.
