Prof. Dankit Nassiuma Installed as 4th Moi University Chancellor.
Prof. Dankit Nassiuma has officially been installed as the new Chancellor of Moi University during the institution’s 46th graduation ceremony, held on December 19, 2024, at the main campus in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County. His appointment marks the beginning of a five-year tenure.
Prof. Nassiuma was appointed as the Chancellor by President William Ruto, effective July 5, 2024. Moi University emphasized that his extensive academic leadership experience and dedication to advancing the university’s mission and vision would greatly benefit the institution.
The university outlined his focus areas, including enhancing student success, promoting faculty development, and fostering connections with both local and international communities.
Academic and Professional Background
Prof. Nassiuma’s academic credentials are impressive. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi and advanced his education at the University of Manitoba in Canada, earning a Master of Science and a PhD in Statistics.

Leadership and Previous Roles
The professor’s leadership journey includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of Kabarak University from 2007 to 2012 and as Vice Chancellor of Africa International University from 2013 to 2023.
At Egerton University, he was the Director of the Postgraduate School, a Faculty of Science member, and a Senate representative.
Additionally, he has managed major projects such as the Kenya Household Integrated Budget Survey (KIHBS) and the National Statistical System (STATCAP), which were supported by the World Bank, IDA, DFID, and the Government of Kenya. He has also contributed to various organizational boards.
Prof. Nassiuma has authored several books and numerous research articles published in refereed journals. His work has significantly enriched the field of statistics and its applications, establishing him as a leading figure in his discipline.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Nassiuma expressed his dedication to restoring Moi University’s reputation and addressing its challenges.
He emphasized his willingness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the institution’s resurgence.
