Private School Directors Vow To Embrace International Curriculums If Ruto Scraps CBC

Private school administrators have pledged to adopt international curricula if Ruto’s government eliminates the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

This comes only days after a group of leaders and parents demanded that the administration led by President William Ruto eliminate the CBC.

The leaders claimed that parents had become poorer since the implementation of the new curriculum began.

Speaking in Kakamega County, Applegate Christian School in Kakamega, private school directors led by Everlyn Tiany, stated that CBC is the solution to unemployment and job creation in the country, pledging to adopt the international curriculum rather than return to the old 8-4-4 system.

They stated that CBC is the best option for a child’s healthy development and encouraged the president’s committee to prioritize the welfare of children when making suggestions.

In his inaugural address on Tuesday, September 13, at Kasarani Stadium, President Ruto stated that he would establish an education reform task force in the coming weeks to lead a review of the CBC.

Ruto stated, “Public participation is crucial, and I will organize an education reform task team in the presidency in the coming weeks.”

The CBC is now in sixth grade. In January, the Ministry of Education plans to implement Grade Seven, effectively the junior secondary class.

Under the CBC, 1,268,830 students are expected to transition to Grade 7, while 1,243,637 standard-eight students will enter Form One.

During the Monday, September 19 launch of the 94th Kenya Music Festival at Kisumu Girls High School, Magoha declared that the curriculum was the solution to unemployment in the country.

The CS said that rather than reading to pass tests and enroll in university courses, CBC allows students to showcase their talents.
