Principals Sending Candidates Home For Fees Will Be Punished, Magoha Warns.
School principals who defy the directive not to send candidates with outstanding fees home will face disciplinary action beginning next week, according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
Prof Magoha said in Vihiga County, when he commissioned CBC classrooms at Simbi and Ingidi secondary schools, that with national exams just two weeks away, no candidate should be missing class due to unpaid school fees.
Prof Magoha expressed regret that a number of principals were violating the directive despite being informed of it.
“All children, including those who owe fees, must remain in school and sit exams that are two weeks away,” said Prof Magoha.
The CS stated that it was time to take action to enforce the directive, which had been broken by a number of principals.

“We have a few teachers who are bold enough to send students home. We call on them to stop because the schools, teachers and students belong to the government.”
Magoha noted that Principals should shift into reverse gear and instruct students to concentrate on the exams. Those who continue to defy (the directive) will face consequences beginning next week.
The warning comes as Kuppet officials protest Ministry of Education delays in releasing capitation for each student, including candidates.
The union expressed concern about the ministry’s plan to keep the funds until April, claiming that this would mean fewer funds for students currently in Form Four.

The CS also lambasted politicians who have called for the CBC curriculum to be scrapped, claiming that the system had already taken off and would soon be in its seventh year of operation.
On CBC classrooms Magoha remained hopeful that the Ministry will meet its target. “Countrywide, the completion rate is at 72 per cent and the remaining 28 per cent will be done by March 7, because this is the deadline for the first phase as schools will have started the national examinations,” said Prof Magoha.
