The specifics are included in the draft transition guidelines for junior secondary schools.
The government is committed to ensuring that the two levels of education stay distinct, even though Junior Secondary will be housed in primary schools.
President William Ruto earlier stated that Junior Secondary grades 7, 8, and 9 would be housed in existing primary schools.
Ruto, on the other hand, instructed the Ministry of Education to give the appropriate transitional guidelines.
Teachers Updates understands that primary school heads will serve as the junior secondary schools’ principals till the end of the year.
Last month, Machogu announced that a meeting of stakeholders would be convened on January 4 to discuss and publish the guidelines that would serve as a road map for all players before they transition to Junior Secondary School.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) County Directors and Ministry of Education County Education Directors were in attendance at the meeting at KICD.
The meeting brought together teachers’ unions and associations.
Regional directors for the TSC and Ministry of Education were also present.
During the meeting, the draft guidelines were tabled and discussed with a resolution adopted that sector players may suggest new proposals for consideration and adoption.
Senior teachers would be responsible for curriculum implementation, with primary teachers serving as secondary-wing principals.
The senior teacher will report to the principal in charge.
The oversight of curriculum implementation in schools is currently the responsibility of deputy head teachers and principals.
These senior teachers will acquire this function in junior secondary schools.
It was also proposed that some of the teachers in current high schools who had been trained on Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) would be asked to teach at the junior secondary level.
