President Ruto Urges Parents to Fulfill Their Responsibilities.
President William Ruto has urged parents to embrace their roles in guiding and raising their children, emphasizing the importance of parental responsibility.
He noted that many parents rely heavily on the government to provide for their children, which, he said, undermines the essence of parenting.
The President stressed that the primary responsibility of parents is to nurture and guide their children in accordance with moral and spiritual values.
He added that parents should teach their children the word of God and advise them against harmful behaviors, instead of leaving these duties to the government.
While affirming the government’s role, Ruto clarified that it has a duty to ensure children access education, healthcare, and other essential services.
However, he stated that the government cannot take over the critical roles that parents and guardians play in shaping their children’s character. He highlighted that children who engage in criminal activities often come from homes where parental guidance is lacking.
Impact of Parental Neglect
The President explained that criminal behaviors, such as drug trafficking, femicide, and other unlawful acts, are perpetrated by individuals who lacked proper mentorship at home.

He urged parents to actively mentor and guide their children to prevent them from becoming offenders. Ruto insisted that addressing criminal tendencies in children begins with concerted efforts from parents to lead them on the right path.
Ruto called on all stakeholders, including parents, religious leaders, and the government, to work together in addressing moral decay among the youth. He emphasized that raising morally upright children is a collective responsibility, requiring each individual to play their role.
He discouraged finger-pointing and blame games, calling on parents to take an active role in nurturing their children, while religious institutions and the government fulfill their respective duties.
The President also encouraged Kenyans to prioritize family time during the festive season, urging them to spend quality moments with their children. He described children as blessings from God and reminded parents to cherish and care for them by making time for family.
Ruto made these remarks on Saturday during a wedding ceremony in Mombasa, where he reiterated the need for parents to actively participate in their children’s upbringing to secure a brighter future for the nation.
