Trans Nzoia County has intensified efforts to enhance Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), focusing on equipping the youth with technical skills for self-employment.

County Allocates Sh45 Million for TVET Upgrades

At the Kitale Technical and Vocational Education Training Centre, Trans Nzoia County TVET Director Eliud Lusweti disclosed that Sh45 million has been earmarked to refurbish TVET institutions in the county.

Lusweti emphasized that improving these facilities is critical to empowering youth and providing them with opportunities for technical training.

Lusweti expressed the county’s dedication to ensuring out-of-school youth can access vocational training programs, which aim to equip them with skills that promote self-reliance. He underscored that revamping infrastructure is a key step in achieving this goal.

Partnership to Address Equipment Shortages

In a significant development, Lusweti announced a partnership with Tools to Work, a Polish organization, that will provide training tools and equipment to over 32 TVET institutions in the county for the next five years.

The collaboration, he explained, comes at a crucial time, addressing the persistent shortage of equipment that has hindered training efforts in many facilities.

Despite these advancements, Lusweti highlighted low student enrollment in technical courses as a major challenge. He called on parents and youth to embrace TVET, asserting that skills training is the most sustainable inheritance for the global job market.

Additionally, the county has committed to providing startup kits to TVET graduates to support their transition into self-employment.

Support for Vulnerable Groups and Achievements of Graduates

Kitale Vocational Training Centre Manager, Beatrice Baraza, commended the efforts of Child Rescue Kenya Organisation in empowering vulnerable youth and young mothers through TVET programs.

She highlighted the success of many graduates who have launched their own businesses, attributing their achievements to the training they received.
