Police Reveal Cause Of Moi Girls Eldoret School Fire
According to preliminary findings, combustible chemicals are likely to have caused the Thursday night fire that destroyed three laboratories at Moi Girls High School Eldoret.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga, the findings indicate that the fire was most likely caused by a chemical reaction.
“Investigations are ongoing and we will get a conclusive report in the course of this week. However, we suspect that the fire was caused by chemicals that could have ignited the fire,” Mr Gitonga told the Nation.
According to sources, the school had been without power for the majority of the day.
The fire, which started around 11 p.m. and gutted three laboratories and a chemicals storeroom, destroyed property of unknown value.
The efforts of a team of Uasin Gishu County firefighters were required to extinguish the blaze, which emitted massive white smoke as it consumed a section of the two-story building.
The damaged labs are on the building’s upper floor. The labs and offices on the ground floor were unaffected.
Panicked parents from Eldoret and its environs rushed to the school on Thursday night to see if their children were safe.
According to Ainabkoi sub-county Assistant County Commissioner Charles Laboso, no one was injured in the incident.
Efforts are underway to rebuild and equip two laboratories and a home science lab that were destroyed by fire at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret on Thursday night.
