Police Probe Dormitory Fire at Mumbuni Girls Secondary School in Machakos.
Police in Machakos have launched investigations into a fire that occurred at Mumbuni Girls Secondary School on Thursday evening.
The fire was reported at around 6:30 pm and broke out on the second floor of a two storey building where female students are housed. The blaze destroyed beds, mattresses, blankets, boxes and personal items of unknown value.
Machakos County firefighters contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the whole dormitory. Officers from Machakos Police Station were also deployed to maintain order and manage crowds as parents and members of the public tried to access the school during the emergency response.
Machakos Deputy County Commissioner David Rotich said no one was injured. He said several students were shocked and were admitted to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment before being discharged back to the school.
Education officials including TSC County Director Jimal Ahmed and County Director of Education Margaret Mwirigi visited the school but said they will not comment until the investigations are over.

The police will determine the cause of the fire. Normal learning has resumed with minimal disruption to the affected students.
Mumbuni Girls Secondary School is located about 2 kilometers from Machakos town.
