Police Investigate Tragic Death of Student Who Fell from Eighth Floor
Kiambaa sub-county, Kiambu, witnessed a tragic incident in which a student, Catherine Njeri fell from the eighth floor of a building in Gacharage village.
The police have taken five individuals into custody, who were with the deceased at the time of the incident.
The suspects are currently being held at Karuri Police Station, where they are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Kiambaa Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina says the authorities are hopeful that the information provided by the suspects will shed light on the events leading up to the tragic incident.
“The police have started the probe. The suspects will record statements and help the detectives with all the details they will need” he said.
Tenants of the building recall hearing a loud noise that caught their attention. Prompted by curiosity, they rushed outside and were shocked to discover that a woman’s body lay on the ground.
The witnesses reported that Catherine Njeri had been visiting her friends, approximately eight people in total, in the apartment at the time of the incident.
She had reportedly gone to the rooftop pavilion with her friend’s boyfriend when the tragedy occurred.
Autopsy and Further Examination
The body of Catherine Njeri was transferred to Kihara Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where a detailed autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The examination will play a crucial role in the investigation, as it aims to provide additional evidence and clarity regarding the circumstances leading to the woman’s fatal fall.
This incident follows a series of similar tragedies that have occurred recently.
In February 2023, Brenda Kawira Gitonga fell to her death from the fourth floor of her apartment in Kasarani after an argument with her boyfriend.
Authorities initially regarded the case as suicide, based on the boyfriend’s account of the events.
These incidents highlight the need for thorough investigations and enhanced safety measures within residential buildings.
