Parents Warned Against Lying for Bursaries

Governor of Kilifi Gideon Mung’aro has issued a warning to parents who mislead about their financial situation when applying for school bursaries.

Mung’aro said that it was unjust for poor students to be denied bursaries owing to the avarice of some parents.

“Parents should be truthful while applying for bursaries. "Because a few individuals have misled about their financial situation, so many youngsters have been denied scholarships,” he explained.

The governor said when he hosted representatives from Mombasa Cement Limited, who promised to pay for the high school educations of four underprivileged students.

Mr. Itiaz Sayani, the company’s director of charity, advised more parents with school fee issues to seek assistance.

Complete scholarships

“We will offer the four students full sponsorship, shopping, and all expenses required in their four years of high school education. Parents in need should come out so that they can be assisted,” he said.

Mrs. Kadzo Wanje, a mother of twin girls from the community of Marereni in Magarini Sub-County, praised the company and expressed her happiness that her daughters will now attend high school.

The twins will attend Mwasere girls secondary school in the county of Taita Taveta.

Deputy Governor Florah Chibule stated that all students would be screened to guarantee that every deserving student receives a scholarship.

“We are going to synchronize our data with those of Members of County Assembly (MCA), the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) bursary, the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and other sponsors to ensure that each student gets a scholarship,” she said.
