Parents Storm School, Withdraw Children From Class in Protest Over Poor Performance
Temporary disruptions occurred at a Gatundu North school as parents expressed dissatisfaction with their children’s performance.
St. Annes Mariaini Primary School witnessed a protest where parents, armed with vuvuzelas, thorns, twigs, and placards, withdrew their children from class.
They sought explanations for the perceived dismal performance and alleged mismanagement of resources.

The protesting parents, who previously viewed the school as a shining star, demanded a complete overhaul of the school management board before agreeing to send their children back.
Among their grievances, they mentioned unwarranted increases in fees and lunch costs.
During the demonstration, Fred Gichuki, Tabitha Gitau, and Emmanuel Ndiwa, representing the parents, emphasized the need for accountability in fund utilization.

They expressed concern that a school feeding program had transformed into a business, calling for transparency and responsible handling of resources.
Despite the headteacher’s unavailability for comment, Gatundu North sub-county director of education Edith Kariuki later addressed the parents.
She assured them that the raised concerns would be thoroughly addressed, providing a glimmer of hope for resolution.
