Parents Storm Mawingu Primary School, Burn Property in Protest
On Tuesday, January 9, school operations at Mawingu Primary School in Ol-Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County came to a halt due to the actions of protesting parents and students who set fire to a fence erected during the two-month holiday break.
The aggrieved parents alleged that a select few individuals in the vicinity were behind the construction of the fence, using it as a deceptive tactic to seize control of the property.
Expressing their discontent, one of the protesting parents, while speaking to the press, stated, “We came to witness how this person fenced the school even after we went for public participation at Mawingu Hospital on the issue.”

The parents voiced their grievances, asserting that merely three days after the public participation event, the accused land grabber marked out the school property. During questioning, he asserted that he had obtained ownership of the land through the authorization of a commissioner at Ardhi House.
Undeterred, the parents pledged their refusal to accept the arbitrary fencing of the land and declared their intent to await a second public participation event regarding the matter.
The demonstration transpired on the initial day of school resumption for the first term, disrupting the commencement of learning activities. It remains unreported whether the school administration played a role in the fencing of the school property. Additionally, there is no statement from the individual responsible for the fence regarding potential legal actions.
This incident occurred shortly after residents in the Mavoko area, Athi River, staged a comparable protest, accusing another influential individual of plotting to annex school land in the region.
The irate residents marched to Joska Police Station in Mavoko, alleging collusion between a senior detective from the area and a businessman in the scheme to seize the property.
