Oruba Boys School Dispute KCSE Results After Nearly Every Student Scores D Grade

Students from Oruba Boys in Migori County are contesting the authenticity of the 2023 KCSE results, asserting that nearly all students received a mean grade of D.

Expressing their dissatisfaction at the Migori County Director of Education Office, the students conveyed their shock, revealing that only two students achieved a mean grade of C minus, while the majority scored Ds and Es.

In a surprising turn of events, the students claimed that such results had never been witnessed throughout their academic years, leaving them bewildered.

Efforts to contact the school principal, deputy principal, and the exam master proved futile, as they were unavailable both physically and over the phone.

Furthermore, the students found the Education Office empty, with only a junior officer present, declining to provide any comments to the media and directing them to address the issue with the Kenya National Examination Council offices.

Tech fails Knec

On Monday, there was widespread confusion among students, parents, and schools as conflicting Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results were received from the examinations body’s website.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced at 10:36 am that the results for the 895,533 candidates were available on the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) website.

The overwhelming number of anxious candidates and parents trying to access the results caused the site to be inaccessible for some time. After about 40 minutes of technical adjustments by Knec, successful access to the results was restored.

As the day progressed, many candidates attempting to check their results later discovered significant discrepancies compared to the results accessed and celebrated earlier in the day.

Prominent schools like Kabianga High School, Mang’u High School, and Nairobi School experienced challenges with conflicting results, creating a state of confusion and uncertainty among students and parents.

At Kabianga High School, one family faced a bewildering situation. The parent, initially thrilled with their son’s A- grade, later found that the grade had changed to a B+.

Expressing concern, the parent said, “I really do not know what is happening. My son was very happy, but when we checked again in the evening, the grade had changed to B+. This matter should be resolved because we now do not know what my boy has scored.”

A similar predicament unfolded at Mang’u High School, where a candidate who celebrated an impressive A-grade early in the day was disheartened when the result was downgraded to a B+.

Concerns and speculations about the reliability of Knec’s results surfaced, with a parent expressing frustration: “It’s very frustrating when your child gets two different results; how are we supposed to trust Knec if every time they are failing? If KCPE had hitches, then they should have known better not to have this same error all over again.”
